Getting to the Zoo & When You Arrive

Once You're Inside the Park

We Are a Hilly Park

The Flint Hills are certainly reflected in Sunset Zoo's terrain! While beautiful, it does make for steep hills in some areas; please plan accordingly when visiting. The Zoo is wheelchair accessible. However, the inclines near the gibbon exhibit / the entrance to the Asian Trail are steep. Utilize the ADA-accessible pathway at Expedition Asia for better navigation.

Zoo guests may call Guest Services at 785-587-2737 anytime during their visit for a ride back up to the zoo entrance in a zoo vehicle.

It's Getting Cold!

As the chill sets in, the zoo furry and feathered residents are feeling it too! Don't worry, all animals have cozy dens, toasty heaters, or warm spots in their exhibits where they snuggle up, so you they may not always be viewable. A majority of bird residents are not viewable during cold weather.

The outdoor water fountain on the concession stand is taking a winter break and is not on, but you can still use the water fountains inside the gift shop and Nature Exploration Center.
