  1. Science on the Terrace: Astronomy Viewing Night

    We welcome K-State Professor Chris Sorensen who will lead us in viewing the moon, planets, and stars through 8" reflecting and 4" refracting telescopes. Guests are welcome to bring their own telescopes. This is a FREE all-ages event. No registration is required.

  2. Walk and Talk: Paleontology Fossil Hike

    July 21, 2018, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

    Join us for a guided hike through prehistory as we explore Flint Hills paleontology. Uncover ancient life from the interior seaway that once covered the Flint Hills. The fossil hike will be guided by Jordan Van Sickler, Assistant Preparator at the University of Kansas Vertebrate Paleontology Lab. He is an experienced paleontologist, participating in several digs in Montana and preparing multiple specimens. Pre-registration is required. Please register online, by calling 785-587-2726, or in person at the Flint Hills Discovery Center. We will meet at the trailhead for the Tuttle Creek Dam spillway off of Beach Road. Participants are responsible for any state park access fees. This event will be held rain or shine, as long as the weather is deemed safe. Please wear walking shoes and sunblock. We encourage you to bring a water bottle!

You'll have the chance to brush up on your skills of roping, branding, horseshoe and bison chip tossing, rope making, and much more! Regular admission rates apply and can be purchased the day of the event: FHDC Members: FREE | $9 adults | $7 military, senior, student, educator | $4 youth | Under 2 free Visitors at National Day of the Cowboy also receive admission to the exhibitions within the Discovery Center, including our summer blockbuster, Be the Dinosaur!
