Manhattan, Kan. – The Flint Hills Discovery Center (FHDC) will host nine opportunities for guests to experience a Greater Prairie-Chicken Booming Ground this spring.
These unique birds are known for their stark colors and their dance-like interactions as they fight for dominance. Guests are invited to spend two and a half hours inside a blind to observe this “majestic ballet” at the height of booming season. FHDC Staff will accompany guests on the trip and will provide all the insight you need.
“This is truly one of the most unique and memorable experiences one can have in the Flint Hills,” said Stephen Bridenstine, Curator of Education. “Hearing their deep booming echo across the prairie as the sun rises over the horizon will change your life.”
The Flint Hills Discovery Center will provide transportation to the booming ground as well as a light breakfast. Trips are open to those age 18+. Ages 10-17 must be accompanied by an adult. Limited to 10 participants per trip.
Available tour dates are: March 14, March 18, March 21, March 25, March 28, April 1, April 4, April 8 and April 11. Rain dates have been scheduled in the event of inclement weather.
Tickets are $50 for FHDC Members and $55 for Non-Members. Pre-registration is required.
