Manhattan, Kan. – The Flint Hills Discovery Center (FHDC) will embark on three Tallgrass Tour Bus day trips throughout this summer. Get a behind the scenes look at some of the most vital structures located in the region.
Secrets of Tuttle Creek: Saturday, June 1 from 8:00 AM-1:00 PM
Get a behind the scenes look at the Tuttle Creek Dam with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The tour will explain why and how the dam was built, along with the benefits it brings to the local area. All participants must be comfortable walking and climbing stairs. Pre-registration is required by May 31 at 5:00 PM.
Secrets of Manhattan: Saturday, June 22 from 8:00 AM-1:00 PM
Learn the secrets to Manhattan’s infrastructure including the Manhattan Regional Airport air traffic control tower, Go Flex Air flight training school, Manhattan’s water treatment plant and wastewater facility. Tour requires moderate walking and climbing stairs. Pre-registration is required by June 21 at 5:00 PM.
Secrets of Energy: Saturday, August 10 from 8:00 AM-1:30 PM
Tour two of the amazing energy destinations in our region: Jeffrey Energy Center and Kansas State University’s Triga Mark II Nuclear Reactor Facility. Safety and security restrictions apply. See website for more details. Pre-registration is required by August 8 at 5:00 PM.
Registration for each Tallgrass Tour Bus day trip is $20 for FHDC members and $25 for non-members. Round trip travel and tours are included.
