Join the Flint Hills Discovery Center as we explore the edible and medicinal secrets of the native Tallgrass prairie. Dr. Kelly Kindscher will dive deep into the world of ethnobotany, exploring how Native Americans used many interesting plants like the echinacea and wild tomatillos. He will also discuss the importance of protecting remnant native prairies and the work of the Kansas Land Trust. Local conversation easement holders will be on hand to discuss the program and their experience.
Dr. Kelly Kindscher is a passionate advocate for native plants, native landscapes and wild places. Dr. Kindscher is Senior Scientist with the Kansas Biological Survey and Professor of Environmental Studies at the University of Kansas. He is the author of Edible Wild Plants of the Prairie (1987) and Medicinal Wild Plants of the Prairie (1992). He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Kansas Land Trust.
