The Flint Hills Discovery Center will be reopening its doors safely to the public beginning Tuesday, June 23. We will be operating under reduced hours to allow for additional cleaning and safety measures during this time. Some areas may be limited.
The Flint Hills Discovery Center offers fun for all ages and children will enjoy exploring the entire facility. However, during your visit be sure to stop by these spaces designed especially for kids.
Located on the second floor, near the Traveling Exhibit Galleries, is the indoor Prairie Playscape. This children's play area is designed to encourage young visitors to explore the plants and animals of the tallgrass prairie.
The Prairie Playscape features an indoor play structure that allows children to tunnel "underground" before popping up above the prairie grasses to slide down. Children can also discover the sounds of the Flint Hills through the prairie organs and enjoy multiple interactive play stations throughout the space. The play area is open during regular operating hours and access is included in your admission.
Adjacent to the Prairie Playscape on the second floor is an open gallery space that features kid-friendly activities in conjunction with the current temporary exhibit. Activities in this area rotate regularly throughout the year; learn more about our Temporary Exhibits. This area is open during regular operating hours and access is included in your admission.
Year-Round Children's Programming
Our youth programming offers children a deeper exploration of the tallgrass prairie. Popular programs include Preschoolers in the Flint Hills and Adventure Camps. Pre-registration is required for many of these programs, visit the Children's Programs page to learn more.
