Astronomy Viewing Nights

Fridays, July 20 & August 17, 9:00-11:00 PM

We welcome K-State Professor Chris Sorensen and astronomer Brenda Culbertson who will lead us in viewing the moon, planets, and stars through 8" reflecting and 4" refracting telescopes.  They will also point out the major stars and summer constellations.  Guests are welcome to bring their own telescopes.  This is a FREE all-ages event.  No registration is required.

Christopher Sorensen is the Cortelyou-Rust University Distinguished Professor of Physics at Kansas State University. He is an avid amateur astronomer who as a teenager built one of the telescopes (the 8” Newtonian reflector) that he uses for public viewings. He has won numerous teaching awards and enjoys showing the night sky to others.

Brenda Culbertson is an observational astronomer who has conducted astronomy education outreach for over 30 years. She has been a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador and was employed as the Observatory and Planetarium Coordinator at Washburn University in Topeka.  Culbertson now helps with astronomy programs, conducts research, photographs celestial and terrestrial objects, and writes.
