Summer 2018 Adventure Camps

Below details the camps currently offered. For a general overview of this program, visit our main Adventure Camp page.
Summer Adventure Camps are divided into sessions alternating each week for students entering grades 1-3 and grades 4-6. 

Pre-Registration Required

All participants must pre-register for each session. Pre-register online, by phone at 785-587-2726 or in person at the Flint Hills Discovery Center. Registration is open.

Before You Begin Your Adventure

  • Complete emergency release and permission forms and return them to the FHDC Education Department on or before your first program of the season. Click here to download forms.
  • All parents should read the Adventure Camp Parent Handbook prior to dropping their child off at camp. Parents failing to follow the rules and regulations outlined in this handbook may result in a child’s removal from camp.

Dive Into Dinosaurs

Date Theme Description
Monday, June 4 The Time of the Giants Compare yourself to the size of a dinosaur! We will find out which dinosaurs lived at the same time and how long ago they roamed.
Tuesday, June 5 Flying with the Ancients What creatures lived in Kansas when the dinosaurs were alive? Come find out as we have a giant adventure!
Wednesday, June 6 Beasts of the Water Discover how the mighty Mosasaur thrived right here in Kansas! We will explore how the surface of Earth has changed during its time.
Thursday, June 7 Plant Eaters Design a world for a dinosaur, complete with their favorite foods. Not all dinosaurs had sharp teeth, let's discover how they chewed their food.
Friday, June 8 Meat Eaters Let's match the dinosaur with the right meal. Compare modern birds to ancient dinosaurs by taking a closer look at fossils and pictures while using tools of paleontologists and biologists.

Monday, June 11 Geologic Time Which dinosaurs lived at the same time? Come find out as we travel through geologic time! Compare our time to the time of the biggest beasts who ever lived on Earth.
Tuesday, June 12 Pterosaurs Discover Kansas' official state fossil, make your own wings, and compare Jurassic birds to modern ones in this fun day of exploration!
Wednesday, June 13 Aquatic Monsters Did you know Mosasaurs lived in Kansas? We'll take a close look at some living fossils and compare how much Earth has changed since the time of the dinosaurs. 
Thursday, June 14 Herbivores of Ancient Earth Design a garden for a plant eater of your choice! We will take a close look at how dinos chewed their food. 
Friday, June 15 Carnivores of Ancient Earth Which dinosaurs preferred to eat meat? Are there dinosaurs living today? Let's take a close look at how meat eating creatures are different than their plant eating neighbors.
