Seasonal Wheelscape - Outdoor Art Journal

CREATED FOR FLINT HILLS MAP & EDUCATION PROGRAM

Students learn about seasons and cycles by going to the same place in an outdoor natural area (ideally) four times during the year and using all their senses to observe what is happening in nature.  Students make a drawing of what they see, and discuss with the class what they saw and why these changes happen in nature at this time.  

Older students can complete larger sketches, record written notes, and conduct background research.  i.e. Choose 3 plants in Konza Prairie Phenology Records (link below) and create graphs of their first blooming over period of years.  What trends, if any, do you see?
