Ancient. Massive. Wild. The bison is a North American species whose story stretches from Plains Indian hunters to entrepreneurial industrialists to dedicated conservationists to today’s producers and enthusiasts. This exhibit celebrates the history and significance of bison and highlights the importance of preservation.

Featuring the Konza Prairie Quilters Guild
The Konza Prairie Quilters Guild boasts impressive quilting skills in the Flint Hills region.  Several quilts will be hung to exhibit the importance of quilting in prairie culture and community.

Wolves and Wildlands


September 15, 2018 - January 13, 2019

Howling at the moon, these predators take us to many places in North America: from the Arctic to the southwestern United States. This exhibition provides a compelling, continental perspective on wolves today. Organized by region, each wolf is presented in its human and natural-history context.

Have you ever pictured what it would be like to jump inside of a painting? This interactive exhibition allows you to immerse yourself into different paintings and gain a newfound appreciation for the artists who created them. Conversational prompts are used to spark thoughtful conversations and connections.

Storyland

Experience your favorite children’s books come to life! Lifesize scenes from popular children’s novels will allow visitors to feel as though they are in the story itself. This exhibition showcases the importance of reading through rhyming, poetry, storytelling and other activities.

Dream with Da Vinci

Da Vinci was a dreamer and inventor. His love for math, science and art are highlighted through this interactive exhibition. Catapults, parachutes, and a hang glider are just some of the inventions used to explore the art of science.

Zoo in You: The Human Microbiome

Trillions of microbes live inside of us. Learn more about the importance and effect fungi, bacteria, archaea and viruses have on our bodies. This hands-on exhibit features: Meet the Microbes, Our Complex Ecosystems and Exploring our Microbiome.
