Explore the Flint Hills and beyond with the Tallgrass Tour Bus! Join the Discovery Center as we embark on day trips to exciting location in central Kansas. We will dive into the history, culture and natural beauty of our remarkable state. Trips leave from the Flint Hills Discovery Center. Round trip travel and tour fees are included. Participants are responsible for lunch fee. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Historic POW Camp and Atlas E Missile Site

Come explore the hidden military history here in the Flint Hills on this special Tallgrass Tour Bus. Travel to Alma, Kansas to see artifacts left behind from the WWII German POW camp at Lake Wabaunsee at the Wabaunsee County Historical Society Museum. Then travel to the lake to see the camp remains and enjoy lunch at The Lodge restaurant. After lunch, you’ll go on a special guided tour of a converted Atlas E nuclear missile site, part of our Cold War heritage, and now the home of a local resident.
Round trip travel, tour, and lunch fees are covered. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by adult. Tour leaves the Flint Hills Discovery Center at 8:45am and returns no later than 4:30 pm
