Explore the Flint Hills and beyond with the Tallgrass Tour Bus! Join the Discovery Center as we embark on day trips to exciting locations in central Kansas. We will dive into the history, culture and natural beauty of our remarkable state. Trips leave from the Flint Hills Discovery Center. Fees vary per trip. Explore Emporia

Saturday, February 24, 8:00am-4:30pm

Come explore some of the history of Emporia with us! You will visit the Historic Howe House and Welsh Farmstead, built in 1867 by Richard Howe, a Welsh, immigrant stonemason. Enjoy lunch at Radius Brewing Company, known for its micro-brews and wood-fired pizzas. After lunch, you will have some time to explore the shops downtown. We will end our day with a tour of the William Allen White House, home to the famed newsman and politician. It’s sure to be a pleasant day!

Round trip travel and tour fees are provided.  Participants are responsible for lunch fee. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Tour leaves the Flint Hills Discovery Center at 8:00am and returns no later than 4:30pm. Trip requires moderate level of walking.

Scenic Chase County

Saturday, May 5, 8:00am-4:30pm

Join us for a scenic day trip to the heart of the Kansas Flint Hills. The Tallgrass Tour Bus takes you south from Manhattan to the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve where you will be treated to a guided tour of the Bison pastures as well as the Spring Hill Ranch headquarters. Midway along our journey we will dine for lunch at Ad Astra, known regionally for its fine food. Our final stop will include a private tour of the Chase County Courthouse in Cottonwood Falls, where we will explore its unique history and construction.
